Combining the classic Rili pattern with a vibrant blue body colour, offering a striking two-tone look with a clear midsection. Bred for pattern consistency so each shrimp shows a clean, well-defined split between colour and clear sections.

About Blue Rili shrimp

Blue Rili give you a patterned shrimp without any extra fuss. They’re as hardy as solid-coloured Neocaridina and thrive in established planted tanks with plenty of biofilm to graze on.

Colour and grade

We grade on a clean, well-defined split between the blue head and tail and the clear middle. The pattern often becomes sharper and the blue deeper as they mature.

Breeding Blue Rili

Like all Rili lines, a Blue Rili colony produces some variation, from well-patterned shrimp to more solid or clearer ones. Select your best-patterned shrimp to breed from.

Care and water

Neocaridina are hardy, but they need a fully cycled tank with 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite. Dechlorinated UK tap water is usually fine. They do best at 20–26°C, pH 7–7.5, GH 8–10, KH 4–6 and TDS 250–300 ppm. Keep copper out of the tank by checking plant fertilisers and medications, and feed sparingly: only what they finish in about two hours. Keep them in a shrimp-only tank or with very small, peaceful fish, as most community fish will eat shrimp. Our shrimp care checklist covers everything to do before they arrive.

Blue Rili shrimp FAQ

Do Blue Rili breed true?
Mostly, but expect some variety in the young. Keeping only the best-patterned adults for breeding keeps the line strong.

How many Blue Rili shrimp should I start with?
We recommend at least 10. A group settles faster, shows more natural behaviour and gives you a good mix of males and females to start a colony.

See all our colours on the Neocaridina shrimp page.
