A soft, semi-translucent blue shrimp with a gentle jelly-like sheen. A calmer, more subtle blue tone that pairs beautifully alongside brighter varieties. Bred for hardiness and steady colour development from juvenile through to adult.

About Blue Jelly shrimp

Blue Jelly are a gentle, easy-going shrimp that suit a calm planted tank. They’re a good choice if you want blue without the intensity of Blue Dream, or a softer colour to sit alongside brighter varieties in a display tank.

Colour and grade

Rather than a solid colour, Blue Jelly have a slightly milky, see-through blue body that seems to glow under good lighting. They look best on a dark substrate among green plants.

Breeding Blue Jelly

Keep them on their own to hold the jelly look. Crossed with other blues, the young can lose their translucency or turn out a plainer blue.

Care and water

Neocaridina are hardy, but they need a fully cycled tank with 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite. Dechlorinated UK tap water is usually fine. They do best at 20–26°C, pH 7–7.5, GH 8–10, KH 4–6 and TDS 250–300 ppm. Keep copper out of the tank by checking plant fertilisers and medications, and feed sparingly: only what they finish in about two hours. Keep them in a shrimp-only tank or with very small, peaceful fish, as most community fish will eat shrimp. Our shrimp care checklist covers everything to do before they arrive.

Blue Jelly shrimp FAQ

What’s the difference between Blue Jelly and Blue Dream?
Blue Dream are a solid, deep opaque blue. Blue Jelly are softer and partly see-through.

How many Blue Jelly shrimp should I start with?
We recommend at least 10. A group settles faster, shows more natural behaviour and gives you a good mix of males and females to start a colony.
