A rich, dark green Neocaridina bred for strong, saturated colouration rather than the paler, washed-out green sometimes seen in the trade. A less common colour that always draws attention in a planted tank.

About Green Jade shrimp

Green Jade are a less common Neocaridina colour and always draw attention, especially against red or white shrimp in neighbouring tanks. They’re every bit as hardy as other Neocaridina and breed steadily once settled.

Colour and grade

We grade on depth and saturation of green. They show their darkest colour on a dark substrate in a mature tank, and can look lighter after a move or a moult before colouring up again.

Breeding Green Jade

Keep Green Jade on their own to protect the colour. Green lines lose their depth quickly when crossed with other varieties.

Care and water

Neocaridina are hardy, but they need a fully cycled tank with 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite. Dechlorinated UK tap water is usually fine. They do best at 20–26°C, pH 7–7.5, GH 8–10, KH 4–6 and TDS 250–300 ppm. Keep copper out of the tank by checking plant fertilisers and medications, and feed sparingly: only what they finish in about two hours. Keep them in a shrimp-only tank or with very small, peaceful fish, as most community fish will eat shrimp. Our shrimp care checklist covers everything to do before they arrive.

Green Jade shrimp FAQ

Do Green Jade change colour?
They can look lighter after a move or moult, then deepen again over a few days as they settle.

How many Green Jade shrimp should I start with?
We recommend at least 10. A group settles faster, shows more natural behaviour and gives you a good mix of males and females to start a colony.
