Bright and cheerful, this Yellow Neocaridina stands out beautifully against dark substrates. A lively, active shrimp bred for bold, uniform colouration that brings real vibrancy to planted and colony tanks alike.

About Yellow shrimp

Yellow is a classic starter colour for good reason. They’re hardy, easy to breed and forgiving of the occasional beginner mistake, while still looking fantastic in a mature planted tank.

Colour and grade

We grade on bold, even yellow across the body. They show their brightest colour against a dark substrate, which makes the yellow really stand out.

Breeding Yellow

Yellow breed readily and largely true when kept as a single colour. Keep them apart from other colours to hold the bright yellow in the young.

Care and water

Neocaridina are hardy, but they need a fully cycled tank with 0 ppm ammonia and nitrite. Dechlorinated UK tap water is usually fine. They do best at 20–26°C, pH 7–7.5, GH 8–10, KH 4–6 and TDS 250–300 ppm. Keep copper out of the tank by checking plant fertilisers and medications, and feed sparingly: only what they finish in about two hours. Keep them in a shrimp-only tank or with very small, peaceful fish, as most community fish will eat shrimp. Our shrimp care checklist covers everything to do before they arrive.

Yellow shrimp FAQ

Are yellow shrimp easy to breed?
Yes. In a cycled, stable tank with plenty of plants and biofilm, a group of 10 or more will usually start breeding within a few months.

How many Yellow shrimp should I start with?
We recommend at least 10. A group settles faster, shows more natural behaviour and gives you a good mix of males and females to start a colony.
