About Me
My journey into the world of aquatics began over 22 years ago, almost by accident. I bought a small fish tank as a gift for a friend, never imagining it would spark a lifelong passion. What started as a simple present quickly became a fascination, and before long I had my own tank at home, eager to learn everything I could.

My early interest focused on livebearers, particularly swordtails. Their behaviour, colour variations, and ease of breeding drew me in and gave me my first real insight into fishkeeping beyond the basics. From there, my curiosity naturally grew, and I soon found myself captivated by South American cichlids. Their intelligence, complex social structures, and breeding habits opened up a whole new level of appreciation for aquatic life.

As my experience expanded, so did my collection. I later moved on to keeping Lake Malawi cichlids, enjoying their bold colours, energetic personalities, and the challenge of recreating their rocky natural habitats. This period really cemented my love for understanding biotopes and designing environments that allowed fish to thrive rather than simply survive.

A major turning point came when I joined the British Killifish Association. At one point, I was running over 20 tanks, many of them small—around 8 x 8 x 12 inches, just a little bigger than a shoebox. I became particularly fascinated by African killifish, especially Nothobranchius. Their unique life cycle, rapid growth, and the practice of posting and receiving eggs from collectors and breeders around the world made the hobby feel truly global and deeply rewarding.

As technology evolved, so did my interests. With the improvement of LED lighting, my focus gradually shifted towards aquascaping. I became absorbed in creating balanced, natural layouts—tiny underwater landscapes that combine hardscape, plants, light, and flow. Alongside this came a deep appreciation for what I like to think of as the gardeners of these nano worlds: Neocaridina shrimp. Their colours, behaviours, and role in maintaining planted tanks added yet another layer to the hobby.

Today, my passion lies in the intersection of nature, design, and biology—whether that’s breeding fish, cultivating plants, or creating carefully balanced aquatic ecosystems. What began with a single tank has grown into decades of learning, experimentation, and enjoyment, and the fascination shows no sign of slowing down.
