Your plants are hungry.
Your light isn’t the problem.
Modern aquarium LEDs have transformed the hobby. But more light means more demand — and most fertilisers simply can’t keep up.
LEDs changed everything. Fertiliser hasn’t caught up.
Light has never been cheaper
Full-spectrum LEDs that outperform the sun are available for under £50. Hobbyists at every level are now running high-output planted tanks that would have been impossible a decade ago.
More light means hungrier plants
Under powerful LEDs, aquatic plants photosynthesise faster, grow quicker, and consume nutrients at a much higher rate. A light upgrade without a nutrition upgrade is a recipe for deficiencies.
Most fertilisers are years behind
Off-the-shelf liquid ferts are diluted, unbalanced, and designed for low-tech tanks. They were never formulated for the demands of a modern, high-light planted aquascape.
I’ve been mixing my own fertiliser for years. Now you can too.
I’ve been keeping aquariums for over two decades. When I started running high-output LEDs across my planted tanks, I quickly ran into the same problem everyone does — commercial fertilisers couldn’t keep pace with the demand my plants were placing on the water column.
The solution was PPS-Pro: a professional-grade dosing method built around a macro solution and a micro solution, dosed daily in small amounts. No waste, no accumulation, no guesswork. Once I started mixing my own compounds, my tanks transformed.
After years of refining the formulas and sourcing pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, I began producing Aquafertz — proper, pre-weighed fertiliser compounds that anyone can use to mix their own PPS-Pro solutions at home.
Professional PPS-Pro compounds. Weighed, labelled, and ready to mix.
Aquafertz is a sister brand of The Shrimp Hub, built from the same obsession with doing things properly. Every compound is pharmaceutical-grade, pre-weighed to the exact PPS-Pro specification, and packaged for the serious planted tank hobbyist.
No fillers. No diluted liquids. No subscription. Just the compounds your planted tank actually needs.
Everything you need to run PPS-Pro

Shop the Full Kit →Macro — Nitrogen
Potassium Nitrate — KNO₃
The primary nitrogen source in PPS-Pro. Drives healthy green growth and vigorous stem development in high-light tanks.
250g — £12.00 →Macro — Phosphorus
Monopotassium Phosphate — KH₂PO₄
Controls phosphate levels precisely. Essential for energy transfer and root development without causing algae blooms.
50g — £9.00 →Macro — Potassium
Potassium Sulphate — K₂SO₄
Boosts potassium without adding excess nitrogen. Strengthens cell walls and improves overall plant resilience.
250g — £13.00 →Macro — Magnesium
Magnesium Sulphate — MgSO₄
Central to chlorophyll production. Without it, plants can’t photosynthesise regardless of how much light they have.
175g — £11.00 →Micro — Trace Elements
Copper-Free Micro Mix
A complete trace element blend for the PPS-Pro micro solution. Completely copper-free — safe for shrimp, snails, and all invertebrates.
50g — £12.00 →Micro — Chelated Iron
Iron DTPA 11%
The most stable, bioavailable form of iron for planted tanks. Eliminates yellowing and supports vibrant red and pink colouration.
50g — £7.00 | 200g — £17.00How PPS-Pro works
Perpetual Preservation System Pro is a daily low-dose method that keeps nutrients in balance without accumulation. Simple, consistent, effective.
Mix your solutions
Dissolve the Aquafertz macro compounds into 500ml of RO or distilled water. Repeat with the micro compounds in a separate bottle.
Dose daily
Add 1ml of macro and 1ml of micro solution per 10 litres of tank volume. Dose at the same time each day — lights-on works well.
Water change weekly
A 50% water change once a week resets any minor imbalance and keeps the tank in a stable, low-nutrient baseline.
Watch your plants thrive
Within a few weeks you’ll see the difference — faster growth, richer colour, and a tank that runs itself with minimal adjustment.
